U.N. officials said they have been urging the U.S. government to release at least some of the food from the warehouses in Kenya while they work out the new rules.

The United States is traditionally World Food Program largest single donor. The food supplies for Somalia were steaddily dwindling each month and that by December it will completely run out. Program recently halved the emergency rations to the more than one million displaced Somalis.

"We are totally dependent on this food and people are now suffering". "We have nothing else to eat". Somalia in one of the neediest nations in the world. The latest being a vicious civil war between a weak government and an extremist Islamist insurgency during one of the worst droughts in years.

In the drought regions of central Somalia many children who had been surviving off the U.S. donations were now dying from hunger. The United States has played a huge role in saving lives by supplyng about 40 per cen of the 850 millino annual aid budget for Somalia, that food donated by the United States goes to needy people and not to the Shabab.
