German anatomist, who first showed the conection of the vascular systems of the mother and the fetus. He is chiefly famed for the excellent drawings in his Tabulaesceleti et muscullorum corporis humani (1747). With Hermann Boerhaave, he also edited the works of Vesalius and Harvey. From 1718 to his death, Albinus occupied the chair of anatomy, surgery, and medicine at the University of Leiden.
