Los espacios arquitectónicos que lo permitían solían llenarse de frisos de variantes del conflicto entre dos grupos antagónicos. Es el combate entre el otro y su opuesto:

AFRODITA

ARES/ MARTE
Ares, Ares, estratego de mortales, manchado de crímenes, salteador de murallas.
Ares es el dios de la guerra, como su equivalente romano Marte.
Ares entre los griegos recibe en ocasiones el epíteto de Bromio "estruendoso", usualmente aplicado a Dioniso, y entre los romanos Gradivo "el que avanza".
Como dios de la guerra disfruta en las batallas, repartiendo su apoyo caprichosamente, indiferente a la justicia. De ahí que sea poco apreciado por los demás dioses y odioso a los mortales.
Marte es considerado por los romanos como antecesor de su linaje, al ser padre de su fundador, Rómulo. El dios da nombre al mes de marzo, que en época antigua fue el primero del calendario romano.
ÁRTEMIS/ DIANA
Se la ha llamado Diana porque por la noche produce una especie de día.
Y se la reclama en los partos porque éstos llegan a sazón al cabo de siete o nueve órbitas lunares que son tramos medios o meses.
Diosa de la virginidad disfruta con el derramamiento de sangre?
A la Luna la llaman Diana y al Sol Apolo, la luna va hacia lo alto y hacia lo ancho, bajo tierra, y se mueve como una serpiente, unas veces a la derecha otras a la izquierda.
La diosa de nacer, la de tener salud y la de morir, por eso ponen sus templos en las encrucijadas.
HERA

LUCIUS AELIUS SEJANUS (47)
Chief administrator of the Roman Empire for the emperor Tiberius alleged murderer of Tiberius´ only son Drusus Caesar and suspect in a plot to overthrow Tiberius and become emperor himself.
Sejanus was related through his mother to the distinguished senatorial family Cornelii Lentuli.
In 14 upon the accession of Tiberius he joined his father Seius Strabo as prefect of the Emperor´s household troops the Praetorian Guard and became sole prefect a year or two later.
After the death of Drusus in 23 he began systematically to attack the position of Drusus´ mother Vipsania Agrippina (the elder) whose sons were Tiberius´ probable heirs.
In 25 he was refused Tiberius´ permission to marry Drusus´ widow Livilla who may have been Sejanus´ accomplice in the poisoning of her husband.
The next year Sejanus persuaded the Emperor to take up residence on Capreae (Capri) and in 29 succeeded in having Agrippina and her son Nero exiled.
As consul in 31 with the prospect of attaining the great administrative prerogatives of tribunicial power he suddenly fell under the suspicion of the Emperor.
Tiberius, apparently warned by his sister-in-law Antonia of Sejanus´ designs, had him arrested and executed.

EMILIO GINO SEGRÈ (1947)
Cowinner with Owen Chamberlain of the U.S. of the 1959 Nobel Prize for Physics for the discovery of the antiproton, an antiparticle having the same mass as a pronton but opposite in electrical charge.
In 1932 Segrè was appointed assistant professor of physics at the University of Rome and two years later he participated in neutron experiments directed by the noted physicist Enrico Fermi in which many elements including uranium were bombarded with neutrons and transuranic elements (elements heavier than uranium) were created.
In 1935 they discovered slow neutrons which haver properties important to the operation of nuclear reactors.
But it remained for others to discover nuclear fission four years later.
Segrè left Rome in 1936 to become director of the physics laboratory at the University of Palermo.
One year later he discovered technetium, the first manmade element not found in nature.
While visiting California in 1938 he was dismissed from the University of Palermo by the Fascist government so he remained in the U.S. as a research associate at the University of California Berkeley.
Continuing his research he and his associates discovered the element astatine in 1940 and later with another group he discovered plutonium-239 which he determined is fissionable muck like uranium-235.
Plutonium-239 was used in the first atomic bomb and in the bomb dropped on Nagasaki.
From 1943 to 1946 he was a group leader at the Los Alamos N.M. Scientific Laboratory.
He was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1944 and he became professor of physics at Berkeley in 1946.
In 1955 using the new bevatron particle accelerator Segrè and Chamberlain succeeded in producing and identifying antiprotons and thus set the stage for the discovery of many additional antiparticles.
His book Nuclei and Particles was published in 1964.

Jesuit priest and astrophysicist who made the first survey of the spectra of stars and suggested that stars be classified according to their spectral type.
He entered the Society of Jesus in 1833 and became lecturer in physics and mathematics at the Jesuit College in Loreto Italy in 1839.
He returned to Rome in 1844 where he completed his theological studies and lectured at the Collegio Romano.
When the Jesuits were expelled from Rome in 1848 Secchi went to Stonyhurst College Clitheroe Lancashire and then to George-town University Washington D.C.
Because of his reputation as an astronomer he was allowed in 1849 to return to Rome where he became professor of astronomy and director of the observatory at the Collegio Romano.
He rected a new observatory in which he carried out his research in stellar spectroscopy, terrestrial magnetism and meteorology.
From his survey of stellar spectra Secchi concluded that the stars could be arranged in three classes according to the type of spectra they display.
Subsequently he expanded his system to four classes and placed all surveyed stars in the following four groups: (1) stars such as Sirius with bright hydrogen spectral lines, (2) stars similar to the Sun with numerous fine lines, (3) stars of the ac Herculis type with broad bands sharply defined toward the red end of the spectrum and (4) carbon stars with bands sharply defined toward the violet end of the spectrum.
These divisions were later expanded into the Harvard classification based on a simple temperature sequence on which modern systems separate stars into temperature and brightness (luminosity) classes.
Secchi was also active in solar observation.
He proved that prominences seen during an eclipse of the Sun are features on the Sun itself and he discovered many aspects of their behaviour and of the behaviour of the finer prominence-like jets of gases now known as spicules.
